Progressive Named a Best Place to Launch a Career by BusinessWeek

Car insurance company jumps 10 spots on annual list of top employers for recent college grads

Search Newsroom

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio — September 23, 2009 — For the fourth year in a row, car insurance company Progressive has earned a spot on BusinessWeek magazine's Best Places to Launch a Career list. Each year, the magazine produces the ranking based in part on employer offerings such as salary, benefits and advancement opportunities. Progressive ranked 45th on this year's list, 10 spots higher than the previous year.

BusinessWeek compiles the list after contacting career services directors at leading universities across the country and asking them to identify top employers. Employers are asked to respond to an extensive survey on hiring, pay, benefits, training programs and advancement opportunities. Finally, market research firm Universum USA supplies data from a survey it conducts of more than 60,000 undergraduates about their most desirable employers. Information from all three sources is combined to calculate the final ranking.

Key Facts

  • Progressive has earned a spot on the annual BusinessWeek Best Places to Launch a Career list.
  • This is the fourth year BusinessWeek has published the list. Progressive has made the list every year.
  • Progressive recruited on nearly 40 college campuses across the country last year before extending job offers to students with majors ranging from business and engineering to computer science and law.
  • A casual dress code and performance bonuses — for which every Progressive employee is eligible — are part of what helped the car insurance company earn a spot on the list.
