Tails wag throughout the land as Progressive expands its Pet Injury coverage

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio — March 18, 2009 — Does your pet love car rides? Or are Fido and Fluffy afraid of the car because they know that getting in means a trip to the vet? Either way, if you have car insurance from Progressive, your canine and feline four-legged friends are protected. Now, Progressive, the first car insurer to offer Pet Injury coverage, is expanding that coverage to pay for even more costs in more situations.

Dogs and cats are now protected up to $1,000 if they're hurt when you're in a car accident; they're now also covered in the event of a loss like a car theft or fire.

"People love their cats and dogs. We understand this and wanted to find a way to protect our customers' pets, which is why we put our paw print on the industry by being the first to introduce Pet Injury coverage," said Miriam Deitcher, director of target marketing, Progressive. "But veterinary bills can really add up, so we've recently doubled the coverage to give them even more peace of mind when they take their pets on the road."

The expanded coverage is free and automatically added to Progressive's private passenger auto policies with Collision insurance, and is currently available in 48 states and the District of Columbia. It will also be available to Progressive's RV customers with the same coverage at the end of the month.
