Insurer honored with a 2007 CIO 100 Award
MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio — June 7, 2007 — The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies, the third largest auto insurance group in the country, has been selected as a 2007 CIO 100 award recipient by CIO magazine. Each year, the magazine honors 100 companies from around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).

Progressive received the award based on the strength of the automated process behind its Total Loss Concierge (TLC) service. TLC is the only service in the industry that helps drivers find a replacement vehicle if their car is declared a total loss after an accident — in other words, the insurance company tells them their car will cost more to fix than it's worth — regardless of the age of their totaled vehicle or if they want a used car. Progressive's team of IT developers built, from the ground-up, a secure, fully automated software system that its TLC representatives could use to collect information from customers, dealers and lenders. The system makes the process of finding replacement vehicles quicker and more efficient by allowing reps to seamlessly retrieve customers' claim information, collect information from customers such as what kind of car they're looking for, and then share this information with a network of car dealerships and lenders.
About the CIO 100
The recipients of this year's CIO 100 award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies completed an online application form detailing their innovative practices in both business and IT. Next, teams of CIO magazine editors and writers reviewed the applications in depth, looking for unique practices and substantial results. Finally, the teams met to debate the merits of each nominee and vote on the final 100. Once the top 100 honorees were selected, several honorees were chosen to receive an additional special award.
