MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO — June 2, 2003 —Lance Moody's driveway suddenly looks a lot different these days. Not only did the Darlington, South Carolina agent recently purchase a new pick up truck, but he won the grand prize in the first of Progressive's 2003 "Year of the Boat" watercraft contests exclusively for independent agents - a brand new, 2003 Triton bass fishing boat and with trailer worth about $40,000. Progressive, the country's number one insurer of personal watercraft and one of the fastest-growing insurers of all types of boats, conducted the contest to help raise agent and broker awareness of the company's Watercraft product and help agents and brokers grow their boat business.

Progressive surprised Moody by presenting the boat to him at his office. Moody won the boat after being entered in a drawing on Progressive's agent- and broker-dedicated Web site, ForAgentsOnly.com (FAO), in which he had to successfully answer five questions about Progressive boat insurance, then sell at least one Progressive boat policy. Moody said: "I guess you could say I love fishing, so when I first heard of the contest and the chance to win this great boat, I thought, 'Progressive read my mind.' But the truth is, I never have good luck in contests. The best thing I ever won from an insurance company was an umbrella about three years ago! So I was just speechless when my Progressive rep showed up at the office and surprised me with this boat. I'm still pretty shocked. What's more, right before I won the boat, I bought a new truck, so I'll have a brand new truck to tow my brand new boat!"er

Progressive ran a second contest throughout the month of May - again, exclusively for its independent agents and brokers countrywide. The grand prize is a 2003 Honda Aquatrax PWC, and the winner will be announced on June 12.

These contests were intended to highlight the features of Progressive's competitive Watercraft product, and help agents grow profitably by providing insurance that meets the specialized needs of boaters. According to data from the National Marine Manufacturers Association, there are over 12 million registered boats in the United States, and Americans spent over $29 billion on new and pre-owned boats, trailers, motors and aftermarket accessories in 2002.

Moody continued: "Progressive's recognizable brand is helping us pull in more and more boaters. With their coverage options and great service, we've confident that our customers are protected."

The Progressive group of insurance companies, in business since 1937, ranks third in the nation for auto insurance, is the largest writer of motorcycle insurance in the US, and also provides RV, ATV, boat, personal watercraft and commercial vehicle insurance. The company offers insurance through more than 30,000 independent insurance agencies throughout the US. Authorized agents can login to Progressive's agent-dedicated Web site, ForAgentsOnly.com (FAO), to access customer policies, state and countrywide news, and other interactive features.
